About Digital Dental X-Rays

Dental x-rays allow our team to gain a greater understanding of your oral health and diagnose dental concerns that cannot be seen with the naked eye. At ACE Dental of Harker Heights, we are dedicated to the safety of our patients and use digital technology to take dental x-rays. These advanced diagnostic images not only produce less radiation than traditional x-rays, but they also let us see the interior portions of your jaw and teeth in much greater detail. Many oral conditions can only be detected on x-rays, including impacted teeth, cysts, bone loss, and cavities between teeth. When these dental problems are identified early, they can often be addressed with less invasive forms of care. Ideal Candidates for Digital Imaging

Digital x-rays are integral to routine dental exams, emergency dental care, and a number of treatment processes. We take dental x-rays for patients of all ages to screen for conditions that may be concealed by the gums and might otherwise go undiagnosed. These conditions may include impacted or unerupted teeth, curved tooth roots, abscesses, tumors and cysts, and tooth decay under restorations or between teeth. While digital imaging is generally safe for most individuals, the team at ACE Dental of Harker Heights chooses to limit x-ray exposure. Patients who may be or are pregnant are advised to let us know ahead of time so we can take special precautions.

What Is the X-Ray Process?

Our team may take digital x-rays at routine dental exams (on a preventive basis), during some dental procedures, and to assess oral damage or emergency needs. These diagnostic images are generally completed at the start of a dental visit and usually require less than five minutes to take. To begin, we will position a digital sensor with smooth, rounded edges in your mouth, next to your teeth. Once the x-ray is taken, the image of your jawbone and teeth will be transferred to our computer within a matter of seconds. One of our dentists will then review your digital images with you, taking care to show you any areas of concern, and talk with you about treatment options for any oral needs.

X-Ray Frequency

In general, a set of bitewing x-rays, which helps us detect bone loss and tooth decay, are taken once each year. A panoramic or full series of x-rays may be recommended every 3 – 5 years so that we may evaluate your jaw health, screen for orthodontic needs, or identify other dental concerns. When tooth pain, a broken tooth, or other conditions arise, we may take a periapical x-ray (which shows the whole tooth and surrounding bone) to fully understand your needs. Your digital dental x-rays when then be kept in your patient chart within our computer system and referred to as needed throughout your dental visit.

Insurance Coverage for X-Rays

Dental x-rays are often covered at certain intervals under a number of dental insurance plans. To learn about your specific policy, one of our billing specialists will contact your provider to obtain detailed information on your benefits. ACE Dental of Harker Heights is proud to be a leader in affordable dental care and accepts several budget-friendly payment solutions for any out-of-pocket treatment costs.
